General Information

  • The Child Care Assistance Program is designed to assist low income families with the cost of child care while they are working and/or attending an approved training/educational courses.
  • The Child Care Assistance Program is administered by the Alaska Family Services, Inc. for the Mat-Su Borough from the Knik River Bridge past Talkeetna, and past Chickaloon. We also administer the program for Distance Delivery areas such as: Delta Junction, Healy, Anderson, Nenana, Tok, Cordova, Eyak, Tatitlek, and Chenega Bay.
  • The Child Care Assistance Program is funded by a grant from the Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Public Assistance, Child Care Programs Office (CCPO). http://www.hss.state.ak.us/dpa/programs/ccare
  • The Child Care Assistance Program Goal: To promote excellence in child care standards and to help ensure that safe, healthy, quality child care is affordable and accessible to all Alaska’s children and families.
  • You choose your own child care provider, from providers participating in the Child Care Assistance Program.

To Qualify as a parent on the program and receive child care assistance.

Who Can Apply?
  • Single parents, two parent families, foster parents, or guardians.
    An application can be found on-line at http://www.hss.state.ak.us/dpa/programs/ccare/forms.html or picked up from our office. We can also mail or fax an application to you.
  • Child care can be provided for a dependant child who is: Under age 13 or;
  • Up to age 19, if the child is developmentally disabled as verified by a physician.

To qualify as a parent on the program
you must be:
1. Activity eligible:
Working (includes self-employment), attending approved training/educational courses or a combination of both. If a two parent family, both parents must be engaged in eligible activities at the same time. Limited Seek Work may be available.

2. Income eligible:
The amount of the family contribution is determined using your family size and your gross monthly income. You may wish to access the web calculator at

Family size is determined by the number of biological and or married parents and number of all children in the household; foster parents/ guardians and their child(ren). Children up to 18 years of age are counted in family size if they are dependents living in the home.

To Qualify as a provider on the program to be paid by Child Care Assistance
.

We are the Registration Office for all Approved Providers in the Mat-Su Borough and for Distance Delivery areas such as: Delta Junction, Healy, Anderson, Nenana, Tok Cordova, Eyak, Tatitlek, and Chenega Bay. For a child care facility to be eligible for public funds by the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), The Department of Public Assistance (DPA), or the Child Care Food Program (CCFP) they must be either Licensed or Approved.

Approved:
Complete the Approved Provider Packet, which includes:
  • Interested Person Report for everyone 16 years or older living in the household
  • Criminal Justice Release of Information for everyone 16 yrs or older living in the household

Approved providers are limited to 4 unrelated children total or 5 children if at least one is related to the provider (any children living in the home under the age of 13 years are counted in this total). Please Contact your local Child Care Assistance Office for information on the Approval process.
