Family
Violence & Intervention Program
The Alaska Family Services has the only state approved Family Violence Intervention Program in the Mat-Su Valley. This program offers healthy alternatives to abusive and violent patterns that may be present in family relationships. The 36-week curriculum includes education, exercises and homework that covers subjects including healthy communication, boundaries, parenting issues, abusive behaviors, life and relationship skills, as well as assists individuals in identifying issues surrounding power and control within the context of relationships. There are three community-based programs and two prison based programs that are currently being conducted. Intakes are by appointment. Please call ahead and talk with the staff to see if this program meets your needs and schedule an appointment if necessary.
This program is court approved and many individuals access this program because of court orders, case planning through the Office of Children's Services and also as voluntary participants seeking alternatives to violent relationships.

Alaska Alcohol and Safety Action Program (ASAP)
The Alcohol and Safety Action Program (ASAP) provides substance abuse screening, case management and accountability for DUI and other alcohol/drug related misdemeanor cases. This involves screening cases referred from the district court into drinker classification categories, as well as thoroughly monitoring cases throughout education and/or treatment requirements.
ASAP operates as a neutral link between the justice and the health care delivery systems. This requires a close working relationship among all involved agencies: enforcement, prosecution, judicial, probation, corrections, rehabilitation, licensing, traffic records, and public information/education.
The benefits of monitoring.
- Increased accountability of offenders;
- Reduced recidivism resulting from successful completion of required education or treatment;
- Significant reductions in the amount of resources spent by prosecutors, law enforcement officers, judges, attorneys, and corrections officers enforcing court-ordered conditions; and
- Increased safety for victims and the larger community because offenders are more likely to be receiving treatment, making court appearances, and complying with other probation conditions.
Please contact 746-6260 for more information.
